STRATFORD.

(From Our Own Correspondent.)'

(AU communications, letters, etc., left with Mr H. J. Hopkins, bookseller, will receive prompt attention.)

Stratford, Jan. 4. At the Hospital Board meeting on Friday Mr. Walter remarked that in the event of the Government replying immediately in regard to the board's application for funds to meet epidemic claims, the chairman could consult the town members and act. Mr. McAllister, in Teplv, said he was glad of this opportunity to state that Mr. Sole had always been ready with his advice, and, indeed, at times put in more hours on the hospital business than he (the chairman) did. He would certainly consult Mr. Sole on this matter if the necessity arose.

during the holidays the Ngaere Gardens were visited by several thousands of Stratford and other visitors. The gardens are now a picture, and are well worth the journey. Ever on the look-out for the best, the new proprietors (Lester Bros.) invite the public to visit tlie gardens next Sunday, when from 2 till 4 p.m. the great orchestrate, will be played. This is a wonderful instrument, producing the full effects of an orchestra, and is the first and only one in Taranaki.

Mr. F. H. Baraitt, land agent, has a change of advertisement on this page of interest to those in search of good dairying farms. Whilst it is satisfactory to record good business during the holidays, Mr. O. JS. James desires to make known that he is still offering ladies' handbags at lowest prices. If in need of a portmanteau purchase here and save money. Do you desire to present the wife, sister, or BWeetheart with a watch, bangle, brooch or necklace? Mr. C. E. James will have the article you require. For toys his variety cannot be beaten, and for Doulton ware, vases, etc., his prices defy competition. Call and inspect. An invitation to all, and no one pressed to buy.—Advt.
