Interest is being aroused in New York over possible action by the BBrilHish and Canadian Governments in the ixattor of the United States Government taking over the control of American cables, many of which have landings on Canidian and British soil. According to officials oF one cablq company the British Government has requested officials not to make changes as leeommended by the Postmaster* General, Mr. Burleston, until British officials have approved of them.—Aus. President Wilson instructing him to p-eside at meetings of the Cabinet. Mr. Marshall explained that the position was unofficial and unprecedented in American history. A SENATOR'S EXPLANATION. Received Dec. 12, 8.30 p.m. Washington, Dec. 10. Skater Hitchcock, addressing the Senate, explained that his name had been used in German propaganda without authorisation. lie admitted peeking to place an embargo on the export of munitions to the Allies, but he did bo purely from the viewpoint of American neutrality.
