TRAMWAY DISPUTE AT DUNEDIN. ily Telegraph.*—Press Association. Dunedin, Last Night. A conference between the tramway proprietaries and the representatives of the Tramways Union was held to-<lay. The union asked for an eight-hours' day for niotornicn, gripmen, and conductors, overtime to be rate and a-half and Sunday work at double rates. It was stated that the City Corporation was prepared to give an increase in round ligures of il per cent, in wages. After discussion, the union representatives agreed to an SA-!loiu- day, subject to ratification, provided the work was continuous. After sitting all day, the conference adjourned till Tuesday week. DEMAND FOR INCREASED PAY. Christchureh, Las f Night. At a largely-attended meeting of the Canterbury branch of tlio Amalgamted Society of Railway Servants, the following resolution was unanimously carried: "That this large meeting urge upon I the executive council to continue to press for not less than two shillings per day flat rate increase and time and a-half for night work. The members present pledge themselves to stand Tiy the executive in whatever measures arc used to compel the Government to recognise the justice of the claims."
