MONTHLY MEETING.! Tlie ordinary monthly meeting of the Taranaki Land Board was held at tlio District Lands and Survey Offices, New Plymouth, yesterday. Present; -Mr. G. H. Bullard (Commissioner) in the chair, and Messrs Hcslop, Mai-tin and Cleland. Mr Ryan telegraphed apologising for his absence. APPLICATIONS FOR LAND. Applications for land were dealt with as follows:—Section 10, block 5, Aria' SJX, 380 aicres, R.L., C. F. Kime.— Approved conditional on satisfactory examination of applicant by board. Section 19, block 2, Aria S.D., 8 acres, M.L-, E. Bennet.—Refused. Section 19, block 2, Aria SD S acres, M.L., T. A. Fleetwood.—Approved subject to usual conditions. SHOW CAUSE. Section 12, block 2, Rangi SD., S3: acres, non-residence. Adjourned for ranger's report. Section 17, Mock 2, Aria S.D. 22 acres 3 roods 20 perches, non-rCßidence. —Exemption granted during the pleasure of Uhe Land Board.

Section 35, block 2, Piopiotea West S.D., 219 acres, non-residence.—Ex-empted conditional on lessee's husband continuing to reside on the holding. Section 44, block U, Waitara" S.D. 1486 acres, non-payment of rent.— Adjourned.

Section 4, block 2, Tangitu S.D., 111 acres, non-payment of rent.—Adjourned. TRANSFERS AND SUB-LEASES. Applications to transfer or sub-lease were dealt with as follows: Section 19, Block 111, Ngaire S.D., 88 acres, Elizabeth Linn to Patrick' J. Breen.—Refused. Sub. 3, section 22, block 15, Kaujokonui S.D., 17 acres 3 roods and sub 2.section 22, block 15, Kaupokonui SD. 04 acres, Mrs Louisa Joll to Frederick Sehlichting.—Approved subject to production of satisfactory proof as to British 1 nationality. Section ID, block 13, Jfahoo SJ)., 085 acres, section 2, bloclr«L Ngatimaru S.D., 200 acres and seYT&M 17 and 18, block IC, Ngatimaru 5.3|398 acres, T. R. Mounseyi to C. B. Bufton.—Approved. CORRESPONDENCE AND MISCELLANEOUS. The board was asked to confirm the Commissioner's action in fixing the price of section 3, block 1, Waitara S.D., 60 acres (pt. Ngatirahiri 28), the section having been urgently scheduled for re-offering for soldier settlement.—Approved.

Uho board also approved of the Commissioners action in fixing the price of section 1, block 2, Haeo S.D. The licensee of section 7, block 10, Totoro S.D., 44 acres, applied to forfeit her holding on account of inability to comply with residence and improvement conditions.—Forfeited as at June 30, 1918.

Charles Brown, lessee of section 1, HaI wcra Extension No. 5, area 37.2 perches, | applied for permission to erect improvements dwelling house and fencing on his section.—Approved. Mr N. C. Kensington, District Surveyor, forwarded a report and valuation on section 9, block 10, Aria S.D., 449 acres, proposed to bo offered for soldier selection.—Approved; opening for soldier settlement under special tenures. Mr Kensington also forwarded a report and valuation on section 8, block 10, Aria S.D., 559 acres, proposed to be offered for soldier selection, and thia too, was approved, and will be opened for soldier settlement under special tenures.

The Hawera County Council forwarded proposals for expenditure of "thirds" amounting to £250 15s 4d, accrued to March 31, 1918.—The schedule was approved.

Messrs Rutherford, Macalister and Coleman, solicitors, applied on behalf of Win. G. Epping, discharged soldier, for consent to transfer two-thirds share in his holding, section 18, Tututawa Settlement, 183 acres, to his brothers, Geo Oliver Epping and Frederick Epping, both discharged soldiers. The board approved of tlie transfer of E.R. section 1291, Town of New Plymouth, from Bernard Byrn to Win. Lett, subject to chairman being satisfied with particulars to bo furnisiVd by solicitor for parties. In the case of a number of expiring EX leases, tho board appointed Mr Hickman F. Russell arbitrator to assess the rents for renewal leases, the valuation being required in terms of the lease. L>3 COMMITTEE. Nine applications by discharged soldiers for financial assihtnee to purchay i farms were dealt with by the boar' > and various recommendations made. One mortgage for £SO was approved. An application was received from a discharged soldier for financial assistance to build a dwelling-house, and was dealt with by the board. Applications for advances totalling £530 for improvements effected by discharged soldiers on their holdings, and for stock, were recommended for approval of the Hon. Minister of Lands. Sii! applications for postponements of payment of rent, and two applications to transfer, were dealt with in committee. ,
