BOYS' TUG-OF-WAR.

To the Editor. Sir,—Some people have greatness thrust upon them! In yesterday's issue E. Whittle gratuitously imparts his knowledge on tug-of-war contests. I am not out for advertising purposes, and I did not know that any portion of my letter on the time-limit contained matter which might be construed as a counter-attack to tho efforts being made to place on a deserving programme an event calculated to draw; neither do I lay claim to "know-alP' propensities. My little knowledge of these contests has ■been gained in the school of practical experience and where the members of more than one team knew just as much about the game as docs E, Whittle, who, if disposed, may obtain my bona fides from the editor of tbe Daily News. —I am, etc., REFEREE.
