ELTHAM.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) Eltham, Oct. 15.

Information lias been received that Lieutenant H. Wilkinson lies in a critical condition. Tt looks as if this is the second message cabled to Mr. C. A. Wilkinson, M.P. The young soldier has not been out of New Zealand manywpeks, where he was recuperating his health after receiving severe wounds. The many friends of the son of the member for Egmont will hope for a speedy recovery. Considerable interest is being taken in the by-election to till the vacancy on the Borough Council caused by the resignation of Cr. E. Parrott. The candidates are Messrs. I. J. Bridger and A. A. Stewart, both men of ability. Indications point to a keen contest. The annual meeting of the Rnox Church congregation was held last evening, the moderator (Rev. H. B. Gray) presiding. The attendance of church adherents was very satisfactory. The report and balance-sheet was adopted after a little discussion. At the conclusion of the meeting a special one was held to consider the selection of a successor to the Rev. Culliford. It was decided to request the home mission committee to release Mr. Perkins, of Waitara, so that he may apply for the call. Violin solos were contributed by Mrs. J. Barrow and Mr. Knox, and a solo by Mrs. Beesbv. Supper was provided by the ladies.
