BACK FROM THE FRONT.
TAItANAKI MEN RETURN' Thirty Taranaki men, who returned by a transport whioh berthed at Auckland on Sunday, arrived in Taranaki last night by the mail train. The men for the Wellington Military District left Auckland by special train at 7.40 p.m. on Monday, in charge of Lieut. R. M. Sprott. At Martoii the Wanganni and Taranaki men left the train in order to join the New Plymouth express, They were hospitably treated in the interim by the residents of Marlon, who drove '.hem to the. town and entertained them iit luncheon. The Soldiers', Star, arid Cosmopolitan Clubs were also thrown open, and they were driven back to the station. At Aramoho they were entertained to afternoon tea by representatives of the Y.M.C.A. The Taranaki men were given a. hearty welcome at every station. New Plymouth's welcome was particularly warm, the station being crowded, while the band, under Bandmaster McLeod, played several selections. The Mayor (chairman), Mr. W. J. Chaney (deputy-chairman) and several members of the Patriotio Committee were present, but there was no formal welcome, the men being quickly surrounded 'by their friends on arrival and hurried home. The Fire Brigade assembled in force to greet Fireman Geo. Malam, who was motored from the itation on the fire engine, which was decorated for the occasion, a conspicuous feature being the Word "Welcome." The following Taranaki men returned: New Plymouth: Lieut-Colonel Weston, D.5.0., Sergeant S. Quickfall, Private B. C, Okey, O'Donnell, E. A. Burkett, G. Malam, A. G. Lethbridge (Sentry Hill), N. A. Hill, F. Doherty, Rifleman W. A. Webber. Waitara: Private A. Limmer. Inglewood: Gunner G. S. Miles, Private A. Raynor. v Stratford: Private E). B. Burgham (Toko), E. A. Fazakerley, W. Hughes (Midhirst), Sapper A. E. King, Rifleman W. J. McCracken, Private T. A. Walshe (Ngaere). Eltham: Corporal F. V. Green, M.H., Lance-Corporal A. D. Murray, Private Pawson (Mangatoki), T. Thompson. Hawera: Sergeant J. S. Hickey (Opunake), Corporal C. A. Bell, Rifleman G. H.Bate, Private W. D. Cunningham (Manaia), J. S. Johnstone (Okaiawa),, W. Marr (Manaia), W. J. Moffitt. Waverley: Sergeant W. L. Oliver I (Kohi). iPatea: Private J. A. Crompton. Sergeant A. E. Butt accompanied the Wanganui and Taranaki men.
