BAND CARNIVAL.

The opening of the new band room has occurred at a most opportune time. No doubt the account of the opening was read by all, but some remarks made on that occasion are worthy of repetition. Mr Burgess stated that the upkeep of the. band was a work which must bo carried on by the townspeople. It was their duty to support the band, and Mr Jennings hoped the people of New Plymouth would not rest on their oars as far as assisting the band was concerned. We are satisfied that these remarks are appropriate. The band is an essential—a local asset —but about that £400! Mr Penn stated that the new building cost approximately £BOO, of which about £4OO has been raised. This fact alone shows the practical interest the people of New Plymouth have in the Citizens' Band. But £4OO still remains, and the Baiid Carnival Committee aim at securing this amount between now and the 28th of October—Labor Day, Band Carnival Day. No effort is being spared to make the carnival both a spectacular and financial success. A treat day and night is in store and patrons will surely have the double satisfaction of having first trebled their money's worth in pleasure, and secondly the satisfaction of knowing that by their attendance they assis'-. in raising this £4OO necessary to free the new band room of debt.
