TARANAKI BY-ELECTION.

POLLING DAY-OCTOBER 10. The writ for the Taranaki by-election was received by the returning officer (Mr. James Jordan) yesterday morning. The date fixed for the election is October 10, and nominations of candidates are receivable at the office of the returning officer, courthouse, New Plymouth, up till noon on the 30th instant (Monday next). The contest appears to be one between the nominee of the Ref oraiLiberal coalition parties, and the progressive democratic candidate. Both sections appear to be working strenuously, but in the short time at the disposal of the candidates there will not be much opportunity for any organising forces, and it will be impossible to meet the electors in every district of the electorate
