THE GERMAN COLONIES.
NOT TO BE GIVEN BACK. Definite Ministerial Declaration. Received Sept. 27, 10.50 p.m. London, Sept. 26. Mr. Walter Long, Secretary for the Colonies, speaking at a dinner to the colonial press delegates, made a remarkable declaration regarding the German colonies. He said: "We sre told we did not enter the war for %n extension of territory. This is absolutely true. We are told these territories must be returned to Germany. I am here to-night to say that if these territories are returned to Germauy the sacrifice of our heroes will be made in vain, and I say the spirits of those men will some from tho grove to rebuke us if after the sword has done its splendid work tJie pen is so cowardlyi as to give back whai the sword has won. The Germans regard the Pacific islands as bases for wireless stations, aeroplanes and submarines, if allowed to return to the position shfa occupied before the war the peace of the world will be threatened.
