[ Mr. Hampton, national president of the Amalgamated Society of Hailway Servants, lias replied to the protest of the Grey Labor representation committee against the vote-apli) ting tactics of Mr. ifeck, .secretary of the society, b.v standing as an independent labor eanili date for Wellington Central, lie stales that Mr. Hack became a candidate at the request of a number of the. workers, who have conscientious objections 0 joining the Labor ifarty a-s at present instituted. The Kailway Society is not 1 political organisation and contains men i! ail shades of politics. Mr. Hampton takes exception to the 'suggestion that the executive exercises j,autocratic censorship over tho political [opinions of railway servants and the t society, especially as the demand for |full civil and political rights for all railwaymen is a prominent plank in their platform. If Mr. Mack is elected for Wellington ' Central he understands it may involvo reconsideration of his appointment as secretary of the Railway Servants' Society. Wellington, Sept. 21.
