MEETING OF COMMITTEE. A meeting of tho committee of the Society for tho Prevention of Cruelty to Animals wan held on Wcdnseday, the Rev. F. G. Ilarvio presiding. Those present were: Mrs. Wilson, Misses Curtis, A. Wilson, and Banweli, Messrs R. C. Hughes (secretary), and E. Lash. An ' apology for absence was received from Archdeacon Evans. A letter from an unknown sympathiser was received, forwarding a donation of 10s, for which gratitude was expressedIt was resolved that the registered oftice of the society be Mr. R. C. Hughes' office, Brongliam Street. Mr. T. P_ Anderson, of New Plymouth, and Mr. Percy Thompson, of Stratford, wero appointed honorary solicitors of the society in their respective localities, and the committee expressed their thanks to these gentlemen for undertaking the duties Tiie inspector reported on a case of cruelty to a Itorsg, whieX resulted in o, prosecution, the defendant being lined £-3 and £1 lis costs. Tho inspector also reported a case of alleged neglect of animals at Stratford, respecting which an information has been laid, and a case of alleged neglect of animals by a cattle dealer in this district It was resolved that the clergymen of various denominations be asked to preach t'iiojr rw«rl sermon relating to (he protection of animals on Sunday, October C, and that they lie asked to invite the attendance of children. It was decided to hold the annual meeting at tho Soldiers' Club on Monday, October 7, or if the president (the Mayor) is unable to attend that night, that it be held on Tuesday, October S. The subject of arranging for the annual literary competitions was considered, but action was left to the incoming committee-
