AUSTRALIAN WHEAT.
To the Editor. Sir, —In your to-day's issue appears information re above as purchased by the Government for the people of this Dominion. I notice it says "a boat is already on the way to Auckland will; wheat and other shipments are io follow." May I point out, Sir, that an endeavor should be made to get a direct shipment to New Plymouth. We have a safe harbor and plenty of water to take any ship coming with cargo from Australia (or'anywhere else). We also have two flour mills in Taranaki to crush the wheat. Transhipping and middlemen's charges and profits would be saved to consumers and users, .nicn as poultry-men and pig-fatteners would also benefit. lam sure a direct shipment could be arranged if the Parliamentary members for Taranaki and ihe Chambers of Commerce used their :r.-fluc-nee.—l am, etc., D. J. HUGIiES. 14th August, 1918.
