WAITARA.

(Our Special Correspondent.) Waitara, Aug. 2. A bumper house is assured the New Plymouth amateurs who are appearing at the Theatre Royal on Monday evening. The entertainment is in aid of the funds being raised here on behalf of the Copper Trail, and will go towards the total being raised by the Wailara Women, who have accepted the challenge in this direction by the Waitara Freezers. "Limb 3of the Law" and "Only a Hoax" scored heavily when shown recently in New Plymouth, and are sure to draw well here. The Women.are determined to show that they shall leave no stone unturned to boo3t the Trail along, and hope to leave a '"blaze" that will dazzle their opponents and also add good coin to the cause. Particulars are advertised in this issue. In conversation with a business man here who recently interviewed the Medical Service Board, lie said he had been passd as a ''boner.'' To the uninit'ated this may mean anything, but in a town of many butchers it means that the candidate had been classed C2 (home service).

At the council meeting yesterday a contractor said he had plenty of boulders handy, but quoted a very high figure. When queried as to the stiff figure the contractor said he had lost on previous work and wanted to get something back. The eour/iil required maintenance metal, but no decision was come to in the matter.
