ELTHAM.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) Eltham, July 22A meeting of the Borough Council was licld on Friday to consider a proposal that Eltham should come into line with Hawera, Stratford, and Jnglewood to employ Mr. Sturrock (Hav.ora. borough engineer) as consulting engineer, at a salary of £750 per annum. The .Mayor, in explaining the scheme, expressed his approval, believing it would be wisdom to secure his services in view of certain loan proposals about to go before ratepayers, to secure certain alterations, additions, and improvements to drainage and other borough works. Cr. Stanners was also in favor, staling that recent works undertaken by the consulting engineer would total something like £7O. The idea appeared a (rood one. and evidently so to the others, as it was eventually resolved to approve of the scheme. The position now is tiiat, whereas Hawera and Eltham approve.
