WEST END SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
The monthly meeting of the West End School Committee was held last night, Mr. A. K. Smart presiding. Mrs. Dowling reported that the average attendance for the past month was 442.3, and the present roll number 502. The very wet weather, together with a certain amount of sickness, accounted for the poor attendance. Since July 8 the board's carpenters had been extending the long room and dividing it to make two class rooms, and they had just shifted into the new rooms. Out offices and drains required attention. It was resolved to co-operate with the FitCToy School Committee in the annual musical and elocutionary competitions. A committee was appointed to make the necessary arrangements to have the school connected with the telephone. The action of the sub-committee in appointing Mrs. Milligan as caretaker of tie school was confirmed. The committee expressed gratification at the action of the board in making temporary additions to the school, so as to permit of one class room being divided into two, and so obviating the, use of the gymnasium as a class room. It was resolved to approve of Mrs. Dowling's suggestion to provide tea for the children during the luncheon hour, and the chairman and secretary were appointed to interview Mrs. Dowling. Messrs. Sander and Hawkey were appointed ft visiting committee. It was resolved to concrete a portion of the playground.
