44th REINFORCEMENTS.

DEPARTURE OF NEW PLYMOUTH QUOTA. The New Plymouth draft of men for tho 44th Reinforcements left for camp yesterday morning. The men, who assembled at the Women's Patriotic Committee rooms, where they were provided with light refreshments and given the customary parcels of comforts, were briefly addressed in suitable terms by tho Veil. Archdeacon Evans and tho Mayor (Mr- C. II- Burgess), both of whom said they would very much rather be welcoming the men hack again. The Mayor said it was hard luck for the men that they had to g'o, but the renewed German offensive was fresh, evidence that every man was wanted, and it was infinitely 'jetter for New Zealand that the war should bo fought in France than within the Dominion. He stated, in passing, that but for the action by the Navy at the Falkland Islands the war might have reached New Zealand shores. He wished the men Godspeed, and hoped they would all return in safety. At the railway station, there was a fair sprinkling of the general public, in spite of the very unpleasant morning. The band turned out and played a number of selections on the station platform. Cheers were given for the men as the train steamed away, while the played "Aukl Lang Sync." Following are the names of the men who comprised the draft: —G. M. Bradbury, A. J. Cranton. T. L. V. Hoffmann, T. L. Hawkes, T. W. J. Hawkes, N. G. Handley, A. A. Mills, P. G. Parker, R. J. Quiclcfall, W. Ryan, A. B. Williamson, H. A. A. Yates, C. Peach, L. W. Waller, G. Sheppard, G. Lister, and N. OTJalloron.
