ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
FATALITY CAUSED IN MAN AW AT U GOBiGE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Palmcrston X., June 2S. Three Shannon residents, Messrs Tremewan, W. M'Kegg, and King, were motoring through the Manawatu Gorge last night, when the car ran into a slip on the road and went over the 'bank. King and M'Kegg jumped clear before the eaj went over, but Tremewan, apparently, was unable to extricate himself, and was carried over the side into the river. It is not known for certain whether he was carried down the river or pinned under the car. Dragging operations arc in progress. Mr. Tremewan was a wellknown resident of Shannon. FURTHER PARTICULARS. Woodville, June 28. The motor-car accident in the Manawatu Gorge occurred at 10.20 last night. The party was on the way to Hastings, and when about one mile and a-half from the Upper Gorge bridge the car ran into some boulders, this interfering with the steering-gear in such a way as to cause the car to go over the bank. King jumped out on the road, and M'Kegg got clear halfway down, but Tremewan was carried into the river by the car. Apparently Tremewan got away from the car shortly after reaching the water, as M'Kegg and King saw him floating down-stream. They called, and he answered, but immediately after disappeared. So far his body has not been recovered. DEATH FROM COLLISION. Oamaru, June 28. Frederick Barlow, who was injured in a collision on Tuesday night, died this morning. He was a naval reserve man, and had no relatives in the Dominion. He went away with the Main Body, and took part in the landing at GallipolL
