AvTONNECi ncaABTKR. Brisbane, June 21. While about SO men were working ia a tunnel 600 ft deep, in Wright's Colliery, Tivoli, a sudden rush of water occurred. TRescue work continued all day. A FATAL SURE. Sydney, June 21'. Fire gutted a second-hand clothing shop in Sussex Street. The proprietors and four children were sleeping upstairs. They were suffocated, except the mother, who jum/ped from the window and is now, in hospital.—Aua.-N.Z, Cable Assoc. THE WHITE PINE EMBARGO. Melbourne, June 21. A deputation, representing the timbeif and butter trade, asked Mr. Jensen to make representations to the New Zealand Government not to prohibit the export of white pine. Mr. Jensen, in reply, said that, as president of the Board of Trn/le, he would ask that body to agree tl:at a motion protesting against the prohibition be forwarded to tlio New Zealand Government. —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assoc. FIXING MEAT PRICES. Melbourne, June 21. A' deputation from 3009 farmers and graziers from Victoria, New , South Wales, and South Australia waited on Mr. Watt to protest against the proposal to fix the price of meat, as the report of the Commission made recom« reendations contrary to the evidence tendered. Mr. Watt, in reply, said the Government considered it necessary to fix the price, but it wag purely a war measure, and, if necessary, further evidence would be taken by the Prices Commission.— Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assoc. SUGAR PURCHASE. Melbourne, June 21. Mr. Watt has announced that the Commonwealth has purchased the whole of the Queensland sugar crop for the present season and 1919-20, involving an expenditure of sixteen millions.—Aus.N.2.
