DEFENCE EXPENDITURE.
THE COMMISSION'S REPORT. (From Our Own Correspondent) Wellington, Saturday. The report of the Defence Expenditure Commission is now in the hands of the Government. It is not likely to become available for publication for a few days yet. The trend of the report lias been indicated in the comments made by Sir Robert Anderson on the evidence placed before the commission during its sittings. The commission finds much to admire in the work of the Defence Department in connection with the Expeditionary Force. It considers that there is room for economy in defence expenditure, though it does not believe that there has been any amount of "graft" or wiiful waste. An important recommendation is that the administrative branch should be separated altogether from the military branch and placed in the hands of experienced business men.
