EGMONT COURSING CLUB.
THE GBUNAKE CUP. The success that has attended the meeting opened on Saturday and is now in progress along the coast has proved that the club's optimism was more than justified. There were 52 nominations of dogs hailing from all parts of Taranaki, Wanganui, and Nelson, whilst one prominent dog, Ladies' Hope, only arrived from Australia last week Keen interest was taken throughout, it being estimated that from -MX) to 500 assembled at the various meeting points and watched the runs, the majority of which providSd keen sport- Hares were plentiful, and proved very strong, generally beating the dogs to cover, very few kills resulting. On Saturday the rims took place at Okato, over the properties of Messrs J. Brophy, L. Hunter, J. Carey, and Goodsir. On Monday the venue was Warea, the coursing talcing placg over the properties of Messrs 0. Sole, Julian, Hemingway, Meiers, W. Lawn, C Muir, T. Doyle, and H. N. Chapman. On Tuesday, Okato was again the scene of operations, the properties coursed over being those of Messrs Henry, W. J. Gray, F. Sole, C. Andrews, and Bridgeman-
The officials—Messrs C. Woolford (president), A. C Waisne, M. DooLightly, J. Pentelow, J. Fleming (vice-president), J. liickey, J. Feaver, A. Sanson, C. Nicliolls, A. Crawford, G. Dobbin, and R Fleming—had made complete arrangements for the successful conduct of the gathering, whilst the officials for the meeting —Messrs J. Jenkinson and T. Richards (judges), R. Gardiner, F Doughty, J. Feaver, R. Fleming, and J. Hannan (slippers), M. Doolaghtly (marshal), A. C. Walshe (flag steward), J. Hickey (slip steward), C. ICcholls (call steward), C. Evetts (identification steward), and G- Dobbin (huntsman) —all did their work well. Mr. C. Evetts, as secretary, proved the right man in the right place. The results up to last night were as follow: JPTINAKE OUP; first prize £4SS and cup valued at £5 ss, donated by Mr. Divers, Dunedin; second, £2O and gold medal, presented by W. Blythe, Opunake ; two dogs, £2 10a each.
