TOWN BOARD. (From Our Own Correspondent). At the Town Board meeting on Monday the members present were: Messrs C. A. Trotter (chairman), S. M. Cornish, J P Burton and E. Thorpe The annual subsidy to publio library (£6) was voted The tender of Mr W MoLeod for team hire for twelve months at £1 5s for one horse and dray, £1 10s two horse team, and £2 for three horse team was accepted Welsh and McCarthy, solicitors, Hawera, wrote that Mrs Espagne was not agreeable to contribute towards cost of tarring and sanding footpath on the frontage of her property Mr. A. H* Moore was granted a rebate of 2s 6d on 12s 8d worth of gas used. The charge should have been on old rate of 12s Gd instead of £1 2s 6d. The Board had no power to grant Mr M. Fennell's application to put a fence across a public road. The members agreed to make an inspection of the roads and culverts in the town district with a view to considering which necessary work should be gone on with. The foreman reported that it would cost £2OO to bridge and fill in the creek at the junction of Havelock and Gisborne Terrace; an alternative price of £22 for a forty foot road was made. The BoaTd deferred the proposals. A public farewell was given at the Town Hall on Wednesday evening to all soldiers on final leave.' Mr. Trotter (chairman of the Town Board) made presentations. The soldiers present were:—Privates J. King, T„ Eversfield, K. Cannell, A Laurenson. The presents were wristlet watches, razor and fountain pen, and hussifs to each Orchestral music was supplied by Humphries' orchestra for the danr-e. and the Riipripr was provded by the ladies of the Patriotic League NURSING ASSOCIATION. On Thursday, a delegation from New Plymouth Hospital met the Nursing Association at the Council's chambers. The New Plymouth representatives were: Messrs M. Fraser (chairman of Board), McNeill and Andrews (members), and Mr Holden (secretary). Mr McNeill (chairman of the Nursin;! Association) presided and there was a good attendance of members The chairman of the Hospital Bourd spoke of the necessity for a better understanding between the local control of the Nursing Association ami the Board. The interest and sympathy shown by members of the Board towards the Nursing Association made an excellent impression on the local members of the association and will no doubt inspire the members to greater eforts There has been no difficulty regarding the financial position up to the present, but a more uniform and regular method of working conditions between the association und the Board was very apparent. The secretary ol the Board and {he secretary of the association were empowered to evolve a better system, and the secretary (Mr. Holden) "stayed over night to effect a methodical arrangement. A hearty vote of thanks w»« accorded to the visitors.
