The Mohoe ladies had control of the Patriotic Mart and Tea Rooms on Saturday They brought in a large quantity of produce, etc., and had a very good day. The total sum secured was £3s— at the Mart and £!10 at the Tea' Rooms ..Next Saturday, Mrs Petrie will have control of the Mart and Mesdames Boon and H. Masters the tea rooms. Any donations of produce, jams, sweets, and reading matter, will be welcomed by tihe Ladies' Patriotic Committee. The Stratford footballers made a promising start In their game against Rovers (New Plymouth) last Thursday. Players are eagerly anticipating the next game, whilst the attendance of the public indicated thai they are keen, on this class of winter pastime. The last ballot has cut In heavily on some business people. Here the medical examination has resulted in several prominent officials being passed One firm stands the chance of having to get fresh faces through their employees fulfilling the medical requirements The Railway Department has also loat several men by the same means Stratford School re-as3embled this morning, and, from appearances, the attendance of scholars is well up to the average Lowgarth Factory Hall was well filled on Friday evening, when a euchre tournament and dance was held Competition was good. Mrs Kilbride, after tieing with Miss Rene Burke, won the lady's trophy, and Mr. W Gray secured the gent's prize, after playing off with Mr A. Hartwig. A very elaJborate supper was provided by the ladies and enjoyed by all Dancing followed, Mr C. H Fox (Stratford) being the musician, his pkymg being thoroughly enjoyed by all. Mr. G Tuke as M.C saw that all were well looked after, tihe evening proving a very successful one. The next tournament will be held in a fortnight's time. The eyes of t&e world are centred on the great German offensive, hut the eyes of the thrifty wife are focussed on the good goods at small prices being offered by Mr. C- E. James. His premises are replete with the useful and ornamental. Goldware, silverware, oopperware, and crockeryware are to be found on the shelves and in packages- Mr. Man is also catered for, and he can smoke the fragrant weed, carry a walking-stick, and in his pocket choice reading matter, all procured at lowest prices from C. E. James.
