IN BANKRUPTCY.

MEETING OF CREDITORS. A meeting of creditors in the estate of Fred. Tapiki (otherwise known as Marutohiakma), laborer Okato, was held at the office of the Deputy Official Assignee (Mr J S. S. Medley), New Plymouth, yesterday afternoon There were present the Deputy Official Assignee (in the chair), Messrs J. Lawn and D D Daly, and Mr A 11. Johnstone (representing Greenway Bros). Mr. P B. Fitzherbert represented the bankrupt. The statement of accounts showed the following amounts owing to unsecured creditors:—J. Lawn, butcher, Okato, £4l 7s Id; Daniel Daly, butcher, Okato, £2O; D. Greenway, storekeeper, Okato, £18; and Norman Andrew, motor-car proprietor, Opunake, £5; total, £B4 7s id. There were no secured creditors. The assets were ropresentd by one horse valued at £6, leaving a deficiency of £7O 7s Id. Bankrupt's real estate was all Native land, and therefore not liable under the Bankruptcy Act. In his sworn statement, the bankrupt said, he had been twice married, and had two children. He lived in his father's house at Stoney River Ho went out working now and again as a laborer, and earned 12s per day He worked four days in April. He had nine acres in the Komene Block, freehold in Taipaeri, Ngatara, Komene and Oakura Blocks, He got about £1 every six months. He also had half-interest in sections 5 and fl, Okato Town block, and an interest in some land in the Rawhere Block. Mr Charlie Wells bought it for £7OO. He also sold some more land to Mr. Charles Andrews in July of last year for about £133. He owed Mr. lawn money then, but did not pay him. He bought some tilings at Greenway's store, for which he paid £33, and he owed him some more. too. The rest of the money went in motor-car hire, races, and drink, The money was all gone before he got Lawn's summons. His wife had money and land, but did not keep him. Ha lived by growing spuds. His father had plenty of land, but did not keep witness He said he might pay his debts l>y selling a piece of land.
