DISTRICT NEWS.

WAREA. (From Our Own Correspondent) A most successful concert and dance was held in the Warea Hall on the 30th inst, in aid of the Country Fair Soldiers' Comfort Fund, performers from New Plymouth. Okato, Puniho and Warea taking part. The programme consisted of vocal and instrumental items and recitations, which were greatly apjpreciated by a large and enthusiastic |audi, ence. Captain Allen's recitations were an outstanding feature of the evening, and he got a well-deserved double encore. Bongs (most of which were encored) were given by Mrs Avery, Misses Rae, Cocker, Young and Jones (New Plymouth), Mrs -L. Wells (Puniho), Messrs Fredrick and Mac Donald (New Plymouth), Jenkins and Vinsen (Okato). A violin solo was played by Mr. P. Morris (Warea), who had to respond to a recall. The accompanists were Mrs Diprose (New Plymouth) and Mr. Pearson (Oakura). Mrs Parker, in a neat little' speech thanked the performers for coming so willingly to help, and also the audience for their attendance. After the National Anthem was sung, the floor was cleared for dancing by a band of willing workers, and in a very short time dancing was in full swing to the splendid music supplied by Mr. Pearson's orchestra, consisting of Mr. Pearson (piano), Mr. Corkill (cello), Mr. Morris (violin) and Mr. Vinsen's (one man band). The supper, which was supplied by the local ladies, was, as usual, up to the high-water mark of perfection. Several of the lady workers wore busy during the evening extracting the stray shillings from the unwary on the various guessing competitions, and to all appearances were doing good biz.
