The third annual meeting of members of the above committee was held this afternoon, Mr. J. Masters (DeputyMa\ or) presiding over a very good attendance. The dhairman congratulated the committee on the very successful year they had experienced Although closely in touch with patriotic work, he had no idea of the volume of work accomplihsed by the ladies. He and others appreciated what the committee were doing on behalf of the soldiers. New Zealand was sending many thousands of ; oung men into camp and to the trenches, and they were gratified to think that many thousands of parcels had been forwarded. We were now with our backs to the wall, our men were fighting desperately, and those remaining behind must be up and doing their share. There was much to be done, and it was not a question of watching and praying, but of working. He was quite sure the women of New Zealand would, if the necessity arose, gladly do the work now being carried out by the women in Britain. He concluded iby formally moving the report and balancesheet, the motion being carried. The election of officers resulted: —President, Mrs. J. W. Boon (re-elected); vice-president, Mesdames J- B. FRIESIAN BREEDERS' ASSOCIA. TION.
For some time past MY. A. D. Stanley has been interesting himself in the formation of a Taranaki branch of the Holstein Breeders' Association. After receiving many encouraging replies from several well-known breeders, a meeting was held at Mr. Stanley's office. Mr. G. A. Marcliant (Cardiff) was elected to the chair, and others present were:— Mossrs J. W. G. Gardiner (Lowgarth), 11. Johnson (Kahouri Bridge), B. Burke (Lowgarth), G. W. Bradford (Auraa), C. Mavhead (Midiiirst), H. Marehant (Cardiff), E. J. Betts (Okaiawa), R. T. B. "Mellow (Kaponga), C. M. Clifford (Lcpperton), G. Castles (Okaiawa). The chairman said all recognised the necessity for forming a branch of the Friesian Society here. Taranaki was recognised as the milking centre of the Dominion, and the Friesian ca.ttle were becoming very popular for their milking qualities. Similar societies had been established in other parts, and it was a wise more to bring the Taranaki breeders into line with other centres. Getting a branch moving here would do much to create interest amongst owners, and would also give further impetus to pusn forward this type of dairy cattle. Other speakers v endors/ed Mr- Marchant's remarks, and it was decided to form a branch, officers being elected aa follows: —President. Mr. G. A. Mardhant; vice-president. Mr. Mellow; committee, Messrs Clifford, Johnson, and H. Gardiner; secretary ami treasurer, Mr. A. D. Stanley.
