EXEMPTED AGRICULTURAL.
ISTS RECRUITED.
MEN UNDER 31. Received .June 2, 5.5 p.m. London, May 31. The Press Bureau reports that the Ministry of National Service has authorised the enlistment of 25,500 hitherto exempted men, under 31 years of age, engaged in British agriculture and certain Allied occupations. These men must join at the end of June, whereafter there will be no further recruitment of exempted agriculturalists, unless compelled by developments of the military situation.—Aus. N.Z. In the House of Commons, Mr. MacPherson stated that we hold 129,213 German combatant prisoners. Germany holds approximately ,124,000 BritishPress Association. EXCHANGE OF PRISONERS. Received June 2, 11.50 p.m. London, June 2. Lord Robert Cecil, in a speech at liitehin, announced that the Germans had accepted a British offer to negotiate for the exchange of prisoners. Replying to criticism of the Foreign Office, he said the whole Cabinet was responsible for the Bishop of Cologne's Corpiig Christi immunity- It was not even proposed by the Foreign Office. Lord Robert Cecil agreed to the decision in the albsence of military objections.—Press Assoc. A PRIZE COURT DECISION. Received June 2, 5.5 p.m. London, May 31. The Prize Court condemned £200,000 worth of coffee and cocoa seized aboard a vessel in the Pacific. The court held that the claimants and consignees were more covers to the conveyance of cargo from Guatemala to Germany.—Press Association. WELSH STRIKE SETTLED. Received June 2, 5.5 p.m. London, May 31. The Welsh strike has been settled. WOMEN WORKERS ON THE LAND. Received June 2, 11.50 p.m. London, June 1. Mr. Prothero, in an interview', said there were 300,000 women working on the land in England and Wales.—Press Association.
