Mv D. McNabb has been transferred fj-om the liltham Post Office staff to Wangaiiui. Mr. F. M. Grayling has received cable advice that his son, Private F. S. (Stanley) Grayling, was transferred to the convalescent hospital at Hornchurch on May 14. • 0 Mr. T. Harle Giles, Conciliation Commissioner, leaves for Auckland by the mail train this morning. In the latest hospital report the names of Corporal M. B. Bergin (Stratford) and Private T. S. Cox (Patea) appear in the removed from dangerously ill list. Mr. J. West has received advice that his son, Private 0. W. West, whe was admitted to hospital suffering from fever, is progressing favorably. Messes. W. Ellis and E. B. Ellerm will represent the New Plymouth branch at the annual conference of tho New Zealand Returned Soldiers' Association, which opens in Auckland next week. Major J. McTntosh, of the Canadian Black Watch, formerly Director.of the Biological Survey in New Zealand, has returned to England from Russia, where he had been engaged under the Foreign Office. He is,at present in hospital. Sergeant E. R. Coutts, of Tariki, a member of the XX Regiment (Taranaki Rifles), was successful in passing the examination for first appointments to commissions which was held in August and February last. Sergeant Coutts has just entered the expeditionary camp.

The term of office of Mr. C. ,T. Ryan, tile present settlers' representative oil the Land Board, will expire shortly, as notified by the returning officer's advertisement elsewhere. Mr. Ryan lias held the position for six consecutive vears, and has shown himself thoroughly conversant with the needs of the back-blocks pettier, and has also been energetic in matters pertaining to their interests. In response to representations from several quarters, Mr. Ryan lias decided to reoffer himself for a seat on the board.
