A sitting of (,ho Conciliation Council was held this morning at tlio Soldiers'

Chili, presided over 'by the. Commissioner (Mr, T. Harle Giles). The hearing was commenced of the Auckland Hotel and Hcataurant Employees' Union (Taranaki branch) dispute, in which'an award is soup-lit in an industry not hitherto covered by one in the Taranaki district. The union's claims are practically on the lines of those made in Auckland and Gis'borne, where awards have already been made. The assessors for the employers are Messrs May and Wallace (Xcw Plymouth), and W. P. Kirkwood (Stratford), and for the umo n Messrs A. Jackson, P. Walsh, and J. M'Carthy (of Auckland ). After an exhaustive and strenuous discission, which las-ted the whole day, a full settlement was arrived at, much on the lines of the recent agreement. Mr S. Warner, of Hawera, the accredited representative of the restaurant keepers there, agreed' to the terms and condition, arrived' at. The award is to be for a term of year's, and to come into force on July 1 next. Taranaki has now come into line with the awards now ruling in other districts in this industry. Mr. P. Walsh, for the union, moved a hearty vote of thanks to the Commissioner for the able assistance he had rendered in bringing about a settlement of the dispute. . This was seconded by Mr. W. P, KisJc. wood, on behalf, of the employers, and supported by the wbole of the assessors.

The Commissioner will be engaged or Monday in the hearing" of the Taran&ki TTntel' Employees' dispute. The council will, in all probability, visit Kawera during the week, for the purpose of taking evidence thereon.

The following firbs were added as parties to the dispute:—-Messrs J. Findlay, F. Wallis, Young and Logie. and Mrs! Kerkly (New Plymouth) . Islington Dining Rooms, Taranaki Dining Rooms, Mra : Almond, Miss Knight, Tonkins. Mrs. Martin, Elder's. Catraur. Warner's Marble Bar (Hawera): Stratford Marble Bar, Ltd. (Stratford).
