THE MOUNT COOK SITE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. A deputation waited upon the Minister for Justice to-day to empliasise the need of improved accommodation for the Technical School, and requested that a portion of the Mount Cook site, at present occupied by the Justice and Defence Department, should he made available for educational purposes. The Hon. T. M. Wilford, replying, siaid he realised the importance of the matter, and wished to give practical assistance to the men controlling technical education in Wellington. He had studied the position as far as Mount Cook was concerned, and found that the area, a'bout three acres, could be made available at once. Ahouc M acre and a-halif additional irfiglit he granted later. The Justice Department could not pait with the land without an equivalent, and the matter would have to ho adjusted between the Justice Department and Education Department. The Justice Department urgently needed a reformatory institution for girls, in order that' first offending prisoners mi<rht he kept out of ordinary prisons. The Burnham Industrial School was Ufeing vneated by the Education Department- Tln>n there ■was Te Oranga Home. If the Education Department would give one nf these institutions in return for the Mount Cook site, an exdhanse migilit he arrant Mr Wilford saM he would consult with the Mitrwter of Education at an early opportunity.
