ANNUAL COMMUNICATION. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, May S. Tlie Masonic Grand Lodge of New Zealand commenced its annual communication to-day. The War Benevolent Fund started hy volntary effort, now stands at £11,523, the sum of £13,700 has been invested in the War Loan, and £IOO donated to the Red Cross. The latest development of the craft is the establishment of a Masonic "Cheer-Oh" hutment scheme. Lodges have been invited to contribute to the maintenance of one or more huts as near to the fighting-lines as the military ruleg will permit. The hutment already opened is in the New Zealand artillery area, and is under Y.M.CA. management.

The financial statement for the year shows that the amounts to the credit of different funds represents a total of £53,089, the principal item hems Widows'. Orphans', and Aged Masons' Fund. £31.894. Out of the interest earnings of the latter fund £1285 per yeaf is being paid in annuities. The recipients number 49. Notice has been given of a motion in favor of the permanent location of the Grand Secretary's office in Wellington.

Mr. Justice Herdman was unanimously chosen Grand Master. * Wellington, Last Night.

The Town Hall was well filled tonight, when the ceremony of installing Mr. Justice Herdman in the office "of Grand Master was carried out. After his enthronement, the new Grand Master announced his appointment of R.W. Bro. Judah N. Keesing, of Wanganui. as Depxrty Grand Master, and that the officer ibe duly invested and inducted. Provincial Grand Masters for the year were appointed and invested as follow: —Anckland, M-W. Bro. 0. Nicholson; Wellington, R.W. Bro. J. W. Ellison; Canterbury, W. Bro. Kenneth Mackenzie (deputy); Otago, R.W. Bro. R. Haw. cridge; West Coast, R.W. Bro. E. A. Richmond; Nelson and Marlborough, R.W. Bro. C H. Mills; Southland, R.W. Bro A. Le H. Hoyles; Hawke's Bay, R.W. Bro. H. L. Harston; Taranaki, R.W. Bro. R. W. Sargent; Ruapehu, R.W. Bro. D. J. F. MTarlanf; Senior Grand Warden, R.W. Bro. C. M. Pago, Auckland; Junior Grand Warden, R.W. Bro. Alfred E. Smith, Invercargill. M.W. Bro. M. Niecol holds from year to year the office of Grand Secretary.
