PALESTINE.
TURKISH POSITION PRECARIOUS. OF MESOPOTAMIA]*. CAMPAIGN. Received May 5, 5.5 p.m. London, May <>. A high authority states that General Allenby's advance in Palestine has rendered the Turkish position precarious. General Marshal also began an advance on April 24. The object in Mesopotamia is to give the Turks as much trouble as possible. We surprised him on the Diala line, where his troops had orders to retire if we advanced, but we managed to intercept him and captured 1950 men, three mountain guns and twelve field guns. —Press Assocation. TURKS DRIVEN BACK. ENEMY'S RENEWED ATTACKS FAIL. HEDJAZ RAILWAY BOMBED. Received May 5, 11.30 p.m. London, May 4. Palestine, official:—Fighting continued throughout the 2nd east of the Jordan and south of Es Salt. The enemy, crossed the river Jisreddaze, were driven back. During the night of the 2nd and morning of the 3rd the enemy renewed his attacks on Es Salt from the north-east and north, with considerable reinforcements.
