NEW PEACE OFFENSIVE, CHARACTERISTIC GERMAN, METHODS Received May 5, 5.5 p.m. • London, May 4. The Central News states it is informed on unimpeachable authority that Germany has renewed its peace offensive, utilising neutral emissaries. A Dutch financier lias arrived in England and another neutral is now en route. The former lias not concealed ihe purpose of his mission. He interviewed a high intelligence officer and sought to convince him that' Germany will never be expelled from France, and that the time was ripe for peace by negotiation. The officer told the missionary to inform Baron Kuhlmann that the Allies intended to win the war by military victory or by starving Germany of raw material. The Central News adds that Baron Kuhlmann hopes to promote a pe.ice offensive through the medium of neutral political idealists and international linancicrs.—Press Association. FULL EFFECT IN FORTNIGHT. THE RESULT OF FAILURE ON THE WEST. Received May 5, 5.5 p.m. London, May 4. Lord Robert Cecil, addressing American correspondents, referred to Germany's coming peace offensive, and said that probably the full strength would show itself in a fortnight, in order to allay disappointment at the failure of the German military effort.—Press Association.
