WORKERS' COUNCIL.
MONTHLY MEETING. The usual monthly meeting of the I Tai'auaki Workers' Council was held on Friday evening, Mr. W. H. Fitzpatrick presiding. The matter of providing shelter sheds for people waiting for the trains was fully discussed. The council intends to approach the Borough Council on the matter. The following motions were also ; passed: That this meeting of representatives of the workers of New Plymouth considers the proposals contained in the Finance Bill amount to industrial conscription, which will further enable the food brigands and other profiteers to fatten on the tribulations of the masses; and this council considers that a general election should be held in the immediate future; the council further insists that before industrial conscription is considered conscription of wealth should be enacted. That this meeting of workers protests against the prolongation of the life of the present Parliament and the consequent disfranchisement of the people, and further protests against Mr. Massey and Sir Joseph Ward leaving New Zealand before taking the verdict of the people. Tlie council resolved to go on with placing people on the municipal roll. The freezing workers voted £5 5s to the Grey election fund. The council expressed satisfaction at Mr. Holland's nomination for the Grey seat, and wished success for the Labor candidate. Mr. Fitzpatrick read a paper on "Rating on Unimproved Values," which was listened to 'with interest and discussed by those present. . .
