40ur Special Reporter). \ Inglewood, April 10. S.M. COURT. The monthly sitting of the S.M. Court was held at higlewood yesterday before Mr. A. Crooke, S.M. Mr. Paterson defended YV. T. Tliomason, farmer, Kgmont Village, on two charges of working horses, one with a sore shoulder and with two sore hind '°2>) and the second horse with a. sore shoulder. Counsel said the defendant jiad made every effort to remove the sores, and had used an ointment which claimed to be efficacious, Constable Longbottom stated he had seen the horses. One had been brought into town to be shod. The sore on the shoulder was 2in by l%in. and under this was a considerable swelling ami there was no protection tinder the collar. He told defendant to turn the horse out into a paddock. Later he went to Kgmont, \ illage and found the horses being worked. There were other UL'ly sores where the britehing rubbed the hind legs. The second horse showed a very ugly sore—it looked like a piece of raw h\ef. Defendant, who had pleaded guilty, was convicted on both 'charges and was fined £2, costs 17s, on the first charge, and £1 and -oost-8 6s on tho second.

The charge of exposing liquor for sale after closing hours on February 18 preferred against Andrew Laing, hotelkeeper, was resumed. Constable Longbottom stated that when he visited the hotel he saw Laing in the bar and Cameron in the little room near the bar which was lit up. A conviction was entered, with a fine of £O, costs 35s 9d. Mr Billing appeared for J. 0. "Taylor, farmer, Waiongona, in a claim a»ainst L. Henwood for £lO for sale and delivering of a grey mare, and 7s for the agistment, feeding and taking care of a chestnut ware at the rate of 2s per week. Mr. Paterson appeared for defend, After hearing tho evidence the S.M. gave judgment for tho full amount claimed with costs £3 lis.
