NAPIER SCHOOL SITE.
PROTEST AGAINST DEPARTMENT'S ACTION.
By Telegraph.—Press Association. Napier, April 12. At tlie meeting of the Education Board to-day a letter was received from the Director of Educatiou staling that the Napier main school is to he built on the old site and to accommodate from 400 to 4iiO on the average. The letter was described as a thunderclap by the chairman, who pointed out that the Minister, also the Premier and representatives of the Education Department, had all absolutely refused to consider building on tlie old site, owing to the lack of space. It was njoved that letters be sent to tlie Premier and members of the Cabinet expressing indignation at the unwarranted delay and tardy behaviour of the Department in delaying this urgent matter, and protesting against the school being built on a site of less than 27 2 acres. During the course of the discussion, tlie methods of the Department, and its very unnecessary delays were criticised to the full.
Mr. W. Oates said that education was the first thing on the land, and what good was the present Minister? He had been an absolute failure from an education point of view.
It was decided -eventually to send a deputation of as many members of the Board as possible to Wellington to wait oil Parliament early next week.
