Arising out of the change in the control of the medical treatment of sick and wounded soldiers from the Public Health to the Defence Department, Dr. Valintine ha.a been transferred to the Defence Department. His appointment as Inspector General of Hospitals and chief health officer has been conferred on Dr. Frengley, who will hold the offices during tlie indefinite leave granted to Dr. Valintine. Referring to the change, ths Minister of Public Health stated it was proposed to reorganise the Department on modern lines. The medical officers would, as far as possible, confine their attention to the professional side of the worlc and the chief sanitary inspectors be given a larger share of responsibility with regard to the non-professional work-
THE PRICE OF BREAD. Wellington, April 13. It is reported that at several places in the Dominion the master bakers have 'raised the price of bread without referonce to the Board of Trade. The board makes it clear that this is contrary to regulations gazetted on March 19, fixing the price ruling on March 4 as the standard price. This standard price cannot be. raised without the consent of the board. When increases have been made without reference to the board, the latter will take action against offending bakers.
