A telegram has been received by the post oilice from Whakatg-ne as follows: There are extraordinary heavy floods at Opotiki. There is six feet of water in tile highest parts of the business area. No loss of life has been reported so far. The floods were caused by the heavy rainfall and the flooded rivers. Ail traffic is suspended. Water is over the counters in shops ami i,r,s reached the ground floor of the post office. The roads are 'blocked and traffic is suspended. Telegraphic communication is interrupted. Whakatane can only get Opotiki over a faulty telephone circuit.
