RED CROSS MART.
SATURDAY'S TOTAL: £l6O. The Red Cross Mart had a most successful day on Saturday. The guilds of Okato, Oakura and Tataraimaka undertook to supply the goods for Saturday, and to assist for the day. A big stock of beautiful home-cooked food, meats, poultry, and vegetables, was sent in, and it was evident from an early hour in the morrfmg that the ladies were in for a busy day. Donations were received as follows: Okato, .€1!) 18s Od, Tataraimaka £2O, Oakura £2l 6s (id, Newall Road £2 2s 6d, Oakura School children ss. A novel scheme for raising money in small amounts was evolved by Mr. Vinsen, of Okato, who instituted an endless chain of penny coupons, and the scheme was a great success. The amount thus raised when the chain was measured was £8 0s Od, the length of the chain being 190 ft. Subsequently, however, Mrs. Humphrey and Mr. Andy Humphrey gave £1 each, thus making the value of the chain up to £lO. Mr. E. Leedona sold £5 worth of coupons, the measure of which was 127 ft 4in. 'JClie total amount raised on Saturday was £l6O, which must be considered very creditable to the district concerned. The following assisted at the mart: Mesdames J. S. Fox, W. J. Gray, W.
