EXPERIENCES AT AWAKINO- - Awakino district was visited lay the fires on Monday evening, and some of i.ho settlers, particularly at Mangaijui, had a very trying time. The fire came acroa-; with remarkable fuuldenness. Leech Bros.' woolsheil and sawmill were 't-iily saved by tlio most strenuous efforts .of 'Mr. Carrington's men, who were camped in the vicinity. The Ore swept over -100 acres, and Mr. T.eech lost 100 sheepMessrs Kelly Bros. lost very heavily, some 200 or '.!00 sheep 'being destroyed. They also lost a 'fiuggy shed, including the buggv, harness, etc., and grass seed 40 the value of £3O or CfiO, and about £IO,OOO feet of sawn timberEarn about midnight saved the situation.
