I found it ddDcuh to obtain a secondhand whare on wheels large enough for three men, and cs the '/rice of a new one Is prohibitive, r.nd the men themselves prefer to be under canvas In reasonable weather, 1 ordered a 10 x S * and an SxC tent for immediate use, but with care they will last two years, and i later on it w'll be cheaper to buy materials I and build a whare ourselves. ' Tlie widening of tlie road in Opunake was agreed to. Flans are to be prepared for the bridges mentioned. MOTOR BY-LAWS, The Eltham County Council wrote, suggesting a conference of all Taranaki county councils and road boards, relative to a revision of by-laws. The clerk statpd that lie liad replied the Kgmont County Council's bylaws were very rnugh out of date, and approving of the proposed conference. Cr. Cornish moved to introduce bylaws regulating the speed of motor ears through Opunakc and Rahotu. Hq strongly. favored a conference of local bodies to arrange uniform by-laws, but meanwhile suggested that notices should be put up at Rahotu and Opnnake, limiting the speed of motorists to 20 miles. Cr. Holder favored a lower speed, and Cr. Cornish amended his resolution tc 15 miles per hour. , Cr. Rowe seconded this, and it was carried. RIDING SUB-DIVISIONS. Cr. Holder moved that the sub-divi-sion of the Oeo Riding be done away with, and that the whole riding be worked as one, main roads revenue being equally divided on a mileage basis. lie stated that councillors must realise that the roads in the Oeo North Riding were the worst in the county. The crux of the position Was the shortage of revenue. Oeo North had IS miles of main road to keep up on rates of £560 per annum, whereas Oeo South had 24 miles of main road on £1385 per annum. He thought tlie position was due to the unfair subdivision, all the high valued land being placed in the southern division. The fairer division would have been a line from the mountain to the sea. The northern division had been neglected, as was evident from the fact that a bridge over tlie Punchu River on the Opun?.kc-,Stratiord Road had been ovniUcd from the bridge loan schedule. The council should strongly urge the opening up of this road, because it would isave considerable road maintenance, as might be gathered from the fact that tiie distance from Tc Kiri to Stratford by thai road was e;jual to that from Tc Kiri to Eltham, so that travellers to Stratford would save seven miles when the road was opened. Cr. S. M- Cornish seconded pro forma. Cr. Rowe moved that the division be altered to provide that 'the boundaries be from the Oeo Road along the Skeet
