ELTHAM.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) Elthain, March 12. Last . night's meeting of delegates representing the various benefit societies resulted in a decision to hold a sports day later on in the year. It at first hoped to fix the for Easter Monday, but the time for arranging details was too short. In the past there have been several /u.c meetings controlled by benefit societies, and there appears no reason that with fair management a similar gathering in December should not prove a financial success. Conversing with Mr. Buckeridge, secretary of the Taranaki Farmers' Union, he informs me lie had very successful meetings at Awatuna and Riverlea on Saturday, and that lie addressed a large number at Kaponga yesterday. A pleasing feature regarding the Awatuna and liiiponga meetings was that they mean the resuscitation of branches in both places.. The value of the land donated by Mr, C. A. Wilkinson, M.P, to the C.E.M S. Club, is just on £BOO, it being valued at £ls per foot.i Mr. C. P. Baker lias been instructed to proceed with the work, and in the coutse of the next few weeks a start should be made. To the uninitiated it should be stated that the rooms are undenominational, and that all pre welcome to membership. As ( the result of t'he recent Horticultural Show held by the Anglican members, about £l5O will go to the Church funds. All thing 3 considered this is very satisfactory.
