SONG RECITAL.
♦ AT EVERYBODY'S THEATRE. The public of New Plymouth was afforded a treat of an unusual order last night, when Mr. Fred Collier, baritone soloist of Madame Melba's party, gave a song recital at Everybody's Theatre, "here was a large attendance, the Theatre being full, the audience being most appreciative and enthusiastic. Mr. Collier's opening item was D'Alquen's "In Sheltered Vale," and in response to an encore he gave "God Bring You Safely to Our Arms Again'' (Vincent Shaw). Tlis dramatic force was flnelv displayed in "The Toreador's Sojiig" (Bizet) which was given with fine declamation, and as an encore "A String of Pearls.'' Mr. Collier's other numbers were "Four Jolly Sallormen" (Rei'man) and "The Floral Dance" (Moss), the encores beins "Fairings' 1 (Martin) and "Roses of Pieardy" '.lTlayden Wood). All Mr Collier's enfore songs are recent publications, the first one of Vincent Shaw's and "Roses of Plcardy" being extremely popular at the present time in America and England, i Mr. Collier was assisted by Mrs. Dou"la* Campbell, who possesses a pleasinc contralto voice. Her first song was Allitsen's "Ronw of Thanksgiving," and as an encore she gave "Mv Dear Soul" (Sanderson). Later in the evening she. sang Barnes' "Soul of Mine," the encore number bein<r "The Da'wn" (d'Hardelot). Mr. Arnold 0. Sturroek played the acenmpanlntents in a thoroughly muslcianlv manner. Amomr his pianoforte solos were a Mazurka by Leschetizky, "The Rustle of Spring'' (Splndler), and McDowell's "To a Wild Rose." His work throughout bore the hallmark of the finished artist, The recital was given in aid of the funds of the local hospital, which will benefit to the extent of aboift £35,
