LIQUOR IN BOARDING-HOUSE.
AN INTERESTING POINT. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Gisborne, Last Night. An interesting point was raised in the Magistrate's Court to-day, when Margaret Skipworth, a local boardinghouse keeper, was charged with permitting liquor to be consumed on her premises when licensed premises are required by law to be cl6sed. The police gave evidence that they raided the boardinghouse at 8.15 p.m., and found drinking m progress among the boarders The police suggested that the boardinghouse was a restaurant within the meaning of the Sale of Liquor Restriction Act of last session. His Worship Mr. Barton said the point was a far-reaching one, and reserved his decision. On a further charge of sly-grog selling, defendant was fined £3O or six weeks' imprisonment. The evidence disclosed that she purchased 52 dozen quart bottles of beer between December 1 and Febru* ary 1.
