TROUBLE AT NAPIER.
STORMY MEETING OP BOROUGH COUNCIL. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Napier, Feb. 6. A special meeting of the Napier Borough Council was held to-night' to consider charges brought by Napier tram, waymen against the tramways manager, and it was decided to hold an inquiry. The meeting was a etormy one, and partly in committee. On resuming ia open council, the Mayor (Mr. H. Hill) moved that Councillor A. McCarthy (Deputy Mayor) he suspended. (< Councillor McCarthy called the Mayo* "a d old woman," and then apologia* ed. The Mayor refused to accept the apology. After Councillor Mulvanah had moved that the police be eent for, as Councillor McCarthy refused to vacate Mb seat, a policeman was sent for, and Counefflor McCarthy dared the constable to remote him. The constable, however, assisted Me* Carthy from his chair. The latter took the constable's number, and threatened; proceedings against both constable and council. Then he left the room, and the meeting terminated shortly after. *•
