TUBERCULOSIS CASES.
AMONG RETURNED SOLDIER& STATEMENT BY MINISTER. By Telegraph—Press Associatioj. p ,■" Wellington, Last Night. The- Minister of .Public Health made a statement to-day regarding steps that will have to be taken by his department to deal with the large number of cases of tuberculosis disease which are found to occur aniong the returned soldiers. A request received from the Public Health .Department, said Mr. Russell, shows that up till January 31st 1023 (?) Boldiera had returned to New Zealand, and the number of phthisis cases araony these men, including oases which had developed after the arrival of the men in New Zealand, was 503. Of these 492 had developi ed the disease before their return here. There had been 42 deaths from tubercular disease. At present there are under treatment 148 of these men, and it is evident that a considerable increase in tho number of consumptive sanatoria will have to bs provided for soldiers.
