HON. J. A. BO&THWICK'S APPEAL. By Telegraph—Press Association. Christehurch, La9t Night. Before the Military Service Board today, the Hot). Jaa. Alexander Borthwick, of Thomas Bortbw ick and Soiih, meat exporters, appealed, on thei-grounds that he was in chaige of the Australasian business of the firm. There were three freezing works in New Zealand and three in Australia, and £2,000,000 worth ofj meat and by-products were shipped a year. Two of appellant's younger brothers were serving. Mr. Borthwick. told the board it was a matter-lor argument whether he was a resident of New Zealand, but he preferred to rely on-tbe factthat he was engaged in an important and essential industry. The board agreed that appellant's services were necessary to-a large industry, and adjourned the case aine^die.
