THREE CANDIDATES STAND.

By ielegraph—Press Association. ' Dunedin, Feb. S. A meeting of Maoris, which Sir Jas. Carroll attended, was held .at Puketiraki last night. It was expected that the National Government candic&te for the Southern Maori seat would be announced, but this was not done. Messrs Henare Parata, J. M. Ellison, and Teooi Topi, who had indicated their intention of standing, were all present. After a discussion Sir James Carroll stated that there were three candidates—Messrs. Parata, Ellison, and Topi—and the feeling of the meeting was that these three should go to the poll.
