Webster), and all concerned, to enlure the success of the T.J.C. autumn meeting, which is to be held at New Plymouth to-morrow and Thursday, and, given fine weather, there is practically a certainty that tbe meeting will add another record to the club's list. For the first day splendid acceptances have been received for all events. Mr J. Blewman has got the course and its appointments in good order. Mr. O'Calloghan will again have charge of the totalisator, and, with a capable staff under his control, investors should have no difficulty in placing their investments. Mr. K. Whittle has charge of the refreshment booth, and Mr. Wooller of the catering, which is sufficient guarantee for.both of those departments. The afternoon tea kiosk will be run by the club itself, under the supervision of Mrs. Ivirkby. The musical programme by tlio Citizens' Band, under the baton of Mr. P. W. G. McLeod, will be a feature. That considerable Interest, is evinced in the musical portion is shown by the fact that the bandmaster has already received requests) for particular items, and "H.M.S. Pinafore" and "Pirates of Penzance" will be played ill response to these demands. (By "Motuvoa"). The Taranaki Cup has attracted eight, equities, including the redoubtable Chortle, Toa Tero, Wishful and. lesser lights. Eiglit have been paid up for in the Flying Handicap, and the field will include useful sprinters like Koesian, Inah, Nystad and Tree Lucerne. The "double" bears a fairly open appearand), though there is a tendency to favor Wishful in the Cup ancl Kocsiiin and Inah in the Flying. A fine field of thirteen is carded for the Waitara Hurdlos, and opinions appear to differ widely as to the capabilities of Paparess. Calais, Speedwell Mac and Rat,ana, Inah will probably be started in the Flying, in preference. to the Stewards' Handicap, in which case Royal Chef and Bon d'Or may be best backed of tho ton left in. The dozen in the Tlmaru Hack Handicap include Robur, Royal Park, Movement, all of which, have been showing good form lately. Eight remain in the Mimi Welter, and if Paddington Green and Volo go to tbe post the race should be an interesting one. A satisfactory, though not brilliant, nil* figure in the Okato Hack Handicap, in wliioh Royal Park and Trombone appear to lie well treated. The catchweight events at the meeting will be contested by big fields, and of those engaged, Piano, Rawakore, Winning Shot and Nemallno all travel fairly fast. Already a big number of visitors have arrived to attend the Taranaki and Egmont meetings, and most of the leading jockeys will bo riding thoro. Patrons are assured of four days' excellent sport. The first race to-morrow starts at noon. Wishful, who is one of the favored 1 candidates for the Taranaki Cup, won a mile race at Trentham recently in lmin 31)4-ssec, carrying Ost. Last year the son of Boniform started seventeen times, running two firsts, three seconds and ; three thirds. All the acceptors for thcCTaranaki Cup 1 arc now in town, and there is every I probability of the eight saddling up fpr that event. The horses, with their prob- > able riders, are as follow: Chortle, 9.10, ! S. Reed; Toa Terc, 0.0, H. Gray; WishI fill, 7.12, C. Emerson; Paraoa, 7.12, B. ; Deoley; Lord Kenilworth, 7.0, G. Clarke; > Dingle, 7.7, C. Brown; White Blaze, 0,11., 1 L. Morris; Alteration, 6.7, S. Bagby. II
