DR. MORRISON.
PRAISES NEW ZEALAND AND NEW; ZEALANDERS. ' 3R'ristchurch,'Jan.24; ■ Speaking at the civic reception tendered to him to-day, Dr. G. E. "Morrison, political adviser tc the Chinese Government, stated that it was impossible, so far as he knew, to find in the Far East information that would induce retired officers or merchants to end their days in New Zealand. A very considerable proportion of the 8000 or more' British residents in China were men who had acquired sufficient means to enable them to spend their day 3in comfort. There was no country in which greater attraction* could 'he held out than in this country. The time was coming when attention should be given 1* the New' Zealand Government, if it wished to attract that class of resident, to distributing" information in tlioa? centres where it could - he seen. Now was the time to' bring the attractions of New Zealand to' notice. New Zealand had never stood higher in the fair esteem of the world than to-day. Not only might the New Zcalander well be proud of his country. Every English-speaking man and woman who had read of New Zealand's achievements in the war might well. ,he proud of this far-distant portion of the Empire, and proud of the foresight and wisdom of her statesmen, proud of. the nobility and patriotism of her poo"'" proud of the heroism and self-saerific.' of her sons. Dr. Morrison was entprtained at luncheon hy the New Zealand Cluh. where, in a speech, he strongly urged the fostering of trade relations between China and New Zealand.
